Old-world charm meets contemporary style in this lavishly appointed cottage situated in the magnificent grounds of a 17th century country house, with Northumberland’s delightful coast nearby.
Turn off a sleepy country lane into Ellingham Hall and you immediately feel you have arrived somewhere special. Manicured lawns are punctuated by beautiful trees, shrubs and a brook; you might even spot some of the estate’s resident peacocks wandering through the grounds. It would be easy to stay here for the whole break, but this is Northumberland, so there is much to explore. A short walk through Ellingham takes you to The Pack Horse Inn, serving regional ales and offering dishes created from locally sourced produce. Jump in the car and within minutes you could be frolicking on the beaches of Beadnell, Seahouses or Low Newton, while the castles at Alnwick and Bamburgh will more than satisfy history enthusiasts.
Entering the imposing stone cottage through a front door, you pass a utility room before arriving at the spacious kitchen/diner. In addition to a microwave, dishwasher and washing machine, you have use of an impressive AGA cooker – you really have no excuse not to rustle up some delicious meals during your stay. Leading off the kitchen is a gorgeous orangerie, a serene space in which to unwind as you look out to the charming garden. The ground floor also features a double bedroom with adjacent walk-in wardrobe, and a bathroom with a shower over the bath and WC. The first floor is home to a bright, airy lounge that’s flooded with natural light. Wooden floors run through the whole property but, bedecked in rugs, it is here in this wonderfully contemporary space that they seem most refined. A pair of sofas and entertainment that includes a large TV on which to watch DVDs, plus a CD, all add to the relaxing ambience. The two bedrooms on this floor are a double with a wardrobe, dressing table and en-suite shower and WC, plus a twin that also has a small dressing table. A first-floor bathroom features a separate bath, shower and a WC.
Enclosed by fencing and walls, your lawned front garden comes with garden furniture and a BBQ for al fresco dining, while close to the cottage is a fantastic treehouse for the youngsters to enjoy. There is a private drive for two cars, plus space for one more car nearby.
