Property Detail

This 18th Century stone built cottage is full of history and charm. As one of the oldest houses on the Island, it still retains a few of its original period features including oak beams and an open log fire. The front of the house overlooks the village green which is where a tree was planted by Queen Elizabeth the second during her visit to the Island.

The house was first recorded in 1792 on the oldest existing map of Holy Island. The house name originated from one of three ships that still lie as wrecks close to the Farne Island shores. It is believed a local resident recovered the ship’s name plaque and used it as the pub sign. A replica of the sign still hangs above the entrance.

The house has a lobby area which leads to the lounge which has 2 double sofas and 1 comfy arm chair. There is a real open fireplace and built in tea cabinet (the Britannia House latterly was a tea room!). There is a round drop leaf table and 2 chairs in front of the main lounge window where you can enjoy an afternoon tea.  The lounge also has a flatscreen TV with DVD and video player along with a casette and CD player. There is also a good selection of books and games for you to use during your stay.

The kitchen is well equipped with an electric oven and hob, a seperate fridge and freezer, slim line dishwasher,  washing machine, toaster and kettle. The kitchen leads to the dining room which has a table and six chairs. There is a door from the dining room which leads to an outside patio area with furniture.

On the first floor there is a master bedroom which has a king size pine bed, fitted wardrobes, bedside tables a chest of drawers and a wicker chair. The 2nd bedroom has bunk beds with a bedside table and wardrobe. Also found on the first floor is a bathroom with shower over bath, hand basin and WC.

There is a pine staircase leading to the second floor which has a twin bedroom with velux windows and bedside table.

Historic attractions, outdoor activities including stunning walks and birdwatching, craft centres and heritage centres as well as fine pubs, tearooms and restaurants are all on Holy Island.

The two famous historic attractions on Holy Island are Lindisfarne Priory (English Heritage) and Lindisfarne Castle (National Trust). Lindi
